SCHOOL PLANTERS AND HANGING BASKETS ARRIVE IN TIME FOR
‘YORKSHIRE IN BLOOM’ JUDGING...
A Sheffield school is showing green shoots and flourishing once again thanks to sponsorship and support from Crystal Peaks after a serious arson attack and a recent spate of vandalism left it boarded up and unsightly. Pupils, staff and parents from Shortbrook Primary School – whose motto is ‘caring and sharing’ wanted local businesses to play their part in its’ regeneration project and illustrate they also ‘care and share’ - by helping to improve and brighten up the schools entrances – the award winning community Shopping Centre took up the challenge.
The school, situated in Westfield Northway, sent out letters written by Learning Mentor Liz Payne asking for self-watering hanging baskets and planters for the patio areas to aid the facelift and make a warm reception for the young students. “What is to be gained by these unspeakable acts? It’s the same old story, the minority spoil it for the majority and yes, we’ve had our graffiti problems and smashed windows, it really is mindless vandalism which is of no benefit except cost, clean up and emotional heartache.” Commented Head teacher, Jan Alexander. “Fortunately my colleagues and the team here are very resilient and truly committed people. I’m very proud of them because they are so positive. They, like me, know it’s the children, our pupils, who really count. So these floral displays will make a real difference and provide colour and interest to enhance our environment by creating a real delight for the eye and a lovely welcoming feeling. Thank you Crystal Peaks for your involvement.”
