Shopmobility Launch

A very special v.i.p. attended the launch of the new Shopmobility Sheffield scheme at award winning community Shopping Centre, Crystal Peaks.

Forget Louis Hamilton, the Tiger Woods of Formula One as our very own Lord Mayor, Councillor Arthur Dunworth, got behind the wheel of a 4 wheel ‘scoota’ when he officially opened the new facility, conveniently located close to the entrance/exit of the Blue Car Park (at the side of footwear retailer Jonathan James). Shopmobility Sheffield will provide mobility aids in the form of 12 wheelchairs and 12 motorised scooters (scootas)  to help people use the Shopping Centre’s local and renowned ‘out of town, town centre’ facilities, some of which include Council First Point & Library, Medical Centre, Dentist, Vet and The Market Place.
Said Mark Arber, Manager, “Shopmobility Sheffield are delighted to be able to offer this new service. We simply want to get people out and about! The provision will greatly improve accessibility for people with limited mobility arriving at Crystal Peaks and the knock-on benefits are to serve the growing needs of the community who require mobility scooters and other selected equipment !” He continued, “Our aim is to promote independence for people with limited mobility, which could be due to disability, illness, accident or age.  We will provide greater ease and increased freedom, independence and dignity to the people of South Sheffield. Thankfully the scheme receives year on year funding from Sheffield City Council and has been made possible with Revenue Grant Funding.  Our unit is going to be purely manned by up to 4 volunteers each and everyday between 9-5 Monday to Saturday with the exception of Sundays.  Fortunately the Centre has excellentservices for the less able with disabled toilets and full ramped access to all area’s including a lift to the new Retail Park. Such a great place to come for anyone wishing to use our Shopmobility Sheffield services.”
