‘HAVE A BREAK HAVE A DOUGHNUT…’
There were free treats in store as shoppers and staff at Sainsbury’s Crystal Peaks went completely dough “nutty” last Friday (11th May) in celebration of National Doughnut Week! Hundreds of jam, custard, white-topped, choc-topped and the “normal” ring doughnuts were freely given away and a special entertaining ‘countdown competition’ took place during the morning to see who could eat 2 of any variety in 2 minutes or less!
Manager John Bailey with shopper Sarah Mellor “Move over Homer Simpson! It was finger-licking great fun and our shoppers saw the funny side of the snack with the less fattening centre!” Commented Store Manager John Bailey, “I don’t think record-holder John Haight who ate 29 doughnuts in just over six minutes in 1981 has anything to worry about! Our stop watches were going and the best time for eating 2 doughnuts was 58.7 seconds - and to add insult to injury, in the ‘internal’ battle for supremacy my colleagues scored a hole in one and won over the management team!” He added, “Of course I became involved on a purely professional level as certified quality and taste controller to check for our renowned authenticity, texture and the scummy quality of the ingredients we use in these fresh tasting treats. The bakery passed with flying colours and has done an incredible job with their donuts. I didn’t believe my taste-buds but whenever I eat sugar I always get a lump in my throat!”
