CRYSTAL PEAKS SERVE UP SPONSORSHIP FOR RIDGEWAY TENNIS CLUB

See you in court; hopefully… after Ridgeway Tennis Club (RTC) have just netted a new season sponsor - Sheffield’s Crystal Peaks Shopping Centre. The exciting co-mission will see the Main Road based Club forward its’ many, many projects over the coming months. The arrangement includes the Shopping Centres’ corporate identity on training tops and displaying their distinctive brand logo on perimeter boarding around the three all weather tennis courts, which are floodlit at night. Founded in 1922 on virtually on the same site today which was left in trust to the village - a sub-section of Ridgeway Sports and Social Club, the Tennis Club started out as grass courts, which went dormant throughout the second world war and early ’50’s, and it wasn’t until 1969 when two tarmac courts were laid down in situ to help RTC compete in the Sheffield & District Parks League.

The youngest male and female players for RTC are aged from 7 and get junior coaching programmes at their ‘Mini Tennis Club’ and eventual participation in match play right through to their oldest player being a mere 72 years young! Chairman Mick Mason remarked, “This funding is great news, we are honoured to have a true community and socially aware Shopping Centre as our mainstay sponsor because we’re a registered charity – run by volunteers and  we need all the help we can get ! We treat the club as a community facility with our foundation to try to help youngsters find an interest or hobby.”  He added, “We’ll be proud to display the Crystal Peaks’ logo as we prepare for a year of great tennis tournaments ahead. I been here since 1969 and Chairman for over 25 years and am still amazed how many people drive pass and don’t realize we’re here – so we’re always on the look out for new members! Players of all standards are welcome and juniors are actively encouraged. We’ve currently have 90 members but that can increase comfortably to 120. Our members come from the surrounding area’s and as far as Dronfield, Todwick, Barlborough and even Welbeck, so the future’s bright. Planning ahead, we’re hoping to build a dedicated club house – complete with showers, changing rooms, meeting areas and refreshment facilities and already have been given huge encouragement and support from the local community so we can proudly say, anyone for tennis?”
