BLOOMING MARVELLOUS FIRST ATTEMPT !
Judges took a shine to Crystal Peaks when the Sheffield Shopping Centre flourished forth at the recent ‘The Lord Mayor’s Award’ as part of the city’s recent ‘Sheffield In Bloom’ initiative taking “Silver” for the Business Premises category.
 The Award was co-ordinated by Sheffield City Council’s City Centre Management Team and the accolade comes as a direct result of 3 ‘teams’ working together. High quality cleaning of the Centre’s internal and external walkways on the part of Mitie (one of the UK’s leading support services companies), planting, weeding and tidying shrub beds by gardening and landscaping contractors Countrywide Grounds Maintenance and the in-house Maintenance Team for on-going upkeep of the grounds, weeding and watering of the numerous hanging baskets and tubs. “All the staff pulled together and did a resplendent job making the Centre a visual delight and a showcase landscape – clearly one of the best in the region” explained Phil Hall, Head of Maintenance. “There was a lot of activity in the weeks leading up to the judging. Planters were sourced and hanging baskets obtained, then we had to bring lorry loads of mulch to be laid down for the bedding. Self sets had to be removed, litter constantly picked, dead tree branches removed the list seemed endless but we all felt very proud of our efforts.” He added, “Turn any corner at Crystal Peaks and you’ll see the positive impact of what’s been described as ‘planting with a purpose’ - we have quality green space for wildlife, brilliant floral displays, some impressive permanent planting and a delicate balance of Summer and Autumn flowers. The traffic islands we have sponsored make our surroundings look well managed, inviting and a good first impression to anyone who visits the Townships or Crystal Peaks for the first time. The Silver Award is great but we’ll be going for Gold next year!”
