KATE’S RIGHT UP OUR STREET !

ITV1 audiences are used to seeing actress Kate Ford go through the trials and tribulations of playing Weatherfield's scheming murderer Tracy Barlow in Britain’s most popular soap, Coronation Street, but yesterday (7th May) Kate proved she was a real sweetheart and wow’ed the thousands of fans who turned out to meet her. The Bank Holiday celebrity appearance was yet another star-studded affair in the Central Atrium at Crystal Peaks.  Kate, 30, born in Salford, has starred in the soap since 2002. In 2004 and 2005 she was awarded “Best Bitch” for her work at the ‘British Soap Awards’ and it’s rumoured Kate is also a dead cert. to collect the ‘Villain of the Year’ trophy - the bookies favourite and currently 1-6 on - at this year’s award ceremony in May.

Being interviewed live, Kate was fielding answers to some very tricky questions, "Was I ever shocked by what Tracy got up to? All the time. When I think back to some of the evil stunts she's pulled I think: 'Just how low can this woman sink?' The murder of Charlie was definitely Tracy at her best - or should that be worst? Another of my favourite episodes was when Tracy ruined Karen and Steve McDonald's wedding day. Oh and who could forget my storyline where I drugged Roy Cropper then tried to sell my baby Amy to him and his wife Hayley!"
She went on to say: "It was great fun doing the scenes with Bill Ward where I had to hit ficticious Charlie Stubbs. Even though I was only whacking him with a foam ornament, it was a real laugh. He’s coming over for dinner on Wednesday and I’m doing the cooking for him, we’re still real pals even after all we’ve gone through including killing him!”
One question shouted out was “Are you single?” to which Kate replied “No, I’m engaged to my fiancé Jon Connerty, - he’s a TV director”   “Are you going to miss it?” was another. "Yes, I'm definitely going to miss it. It will feel strange not being there with the cast and the crew.” She also revealed the show's scriptwriters have left the way open for a possible return in future years.
Centre Manager Chris Jones said, “We’re been absolutely thrilled with Kate’s appearance a Crystal Peaks and I think everyone would agree that Kate is not at all like the ficticious Tracy, she’s been so lovely.  It has been a truly entertaining way to spend the day here at Crystal Peaks for all our shoppers.”
