BEIGHTON'S BLOOMING MARVELLOUS ...
A Sheffield village Environmental Group wants to flourish in this year “Yorkshire In Bloom” Awards, and has enlisted the support from local businesses including community orientated Crystal Peaks in their bid for regional success. The Sheffield Shopping Centre has sponsored 20 huge planters at £350 each that have been placed on West Street, and at the junction of Woodhouse Lane and Robin Lane roundabout in Beighton.
Amanda Jones & Graham Sykes of BEG
“The planters are a statement of community commitment. Crystal Peaks Management are fabulous, such a great partner and fully supportive with their ‘let’s see what we can do’ positive attitude.” Commented Amanda Jones, Chair at Beighton Environmental Group, “They (the planters) arrived mid June full of yucca’s, canna’s, conifers and small bay trees – a real variety and delight for the eye including flourishing summer bedding plants like the lobelia and marigold adding beautiful colour. They will stay with us until September and the Council’s “Street Force” has promised to maintain them. We are getting very excited as this year’s judging takes place in just 8 days time on 4th July - 10 til 12 so they can see for themselves all the hard work that’s going on behind the scenes!” She added, “Beighton Environment Group has taken the initiative after feedback from last years entry when the judges said we needed more floral display - so on the back of the Crystal Peaks planters we’ve also managed to secure 10 hanging baskets on lampposts with money from Objective One and Yorkshire Forward – a real coup! They’ll be sited in High Street and West Street. We also have consistently raised other moneys from a stall at the Gala, which incidentally is on 14th July this year. Last year the judges were impressed with the village’s front gardens and how neat and tidy the entry was – virtually litter free – so we need to maintain that level from residents and co-ordinate the efforts of everyone on that Wednesday! I know it will enhance Beighton’s environment to be enjoyed by visitors and residents alike.”
