IT'S A WHEELY GREAT CAUSE !

The ‘Neurocare Brainwave Appeal’ has been announced today as Crystal Peaks’ newly adopted charity organisation for the Sheffield Shopping Centres’ major fundraising activities throughout 2006/07.

The Brainwave Appeal, recently launched, plans to raise £500,000 to purchase 3 Sonowand Ultrasound Scanners – 1 for Sheffield Children’s Hospital and 2 for the neurosurgery operating theatres at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. Both of these hospitals serve over 2.2 million people in the NHS North Trent region.  Image

Commented Centre Manager, Chris Jones, “When we heard about Neurocare and their need for Sonowand’s we couldn’t resist helping - especially as it’ll be a first for Sheffield and a first for the UK, creating a unique opportunity!”

He explained, “This is the biggest technological breakthrough since MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) as the scanner works in real time 3D, locating the problem with pinpoint accuracy.  It’ll reduced operating times and make surgery much safer for patients. I know with our assistance and support it’ll go some way to help purchase this world beating technology. I can only wish them well for a highly successful conclusion.”

Spokes-person and tyre-less Fundraising Director Lesley Eland said, “The Right Honourable Norman Tebbitt now Lord Tebbitt, would be proud of us! We’ve got on our bikes for two reasons, one to say thank you to Crystal Peaks for selecting us this year and secondly to tell everyone about our Bike or Hike Challenge taking place at Rother Valley Country Park on Saturday 8th July. It’s 3 miles for a Hike or 6 miles for a Bike! I think Chris has succinctly explained why we need to gain the much needed funds to help patients with head injuries, stokes and cancers of the nervous system to aid all of the people in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire and beyond.”

“The Bike and Hike Challenge was inspired by Chris Sharp who cycled part of the Tour de France for us after his uncle received treatment for a brain tumour. So we thought of different cogs turning for Neurocare to gain a chain reaction!”
