CRYSTAL PEAKS FLUSHED WITH PRIDE...It's official! Crystal Peaks has the best public toilets in South Yorkshire! For the 2nd year running, the Sheffield Shopping Centre was the only South Yorkshire retail outlet to gain a "5 Star Award" in the '2005 Loo of the Year Awards' held recently at The World Toilet Summit, at The Waterfront Conference Centre in Belfast.The Centre is thrilled to have scooped top honours again with the Highest National Grading, and were presented with certificates of achievement in the British Toilet Association (BTA) promoted final. The accolade was given to the w.c.'s situated in the lower atrium - which were opened in 2004. The Loo Of The Year Awards have been identifying the best in Britain since 1987 and are recognised as standard setters for all those who provide 'away from the home' facilities for staff, customers and visitors. All entrants submit their toilet facilities for an annual, independent assessment and receive an unannounced visit from an authorised 'Loo Of The Year Awards Inspector' to be evaluated against a wide range of judging criteria - including signage, air quality and decor, fixtures and fittings and overall standards of cleanliness and management. Every loo receives a star grading ranging from 1-5 with 5 stars being the highest.
This year there was a a total of 1,046 entries, across 50 separate entry categories - nationally just 24 other shopping centres achieved success in the 'retail' category. Commenting on the results of this year's competition, Awards Director Richard Chisnell said, "Higher standards are really being set, the excellent examples evident in this year's Awards will help spread the message that Award winning toilets are good for business as well as good for reputation. With significantly more entries than last year, this reflects the growing commitment to higher washroom standards by an increasing number of ‘away from home’ toilet providers." "You could say it was a few pennies well spent!" Exclaimed a delighted Linda Deehan, Supervisor, from Crystal Peaks' Housekeeping Department. "We place exceptional priority on our toilet facilities and I think that's what leads us to success. It's really nice to know that our dedicated cleaning staff, who do a fantastic job looking after the toilets, get the recognition they truly deserve and all the praise we can give them.
