RESIDENTS URGE ‘DON’T DROP IT, BIN IT’

The good folk of Halfway are going green and cleaning up their act thanks to Crystal Peaks and Halfway Elderly Peoples Club with the Shopping Centre’s purchase, donation and sponsorship of 2 litterbins to the James Walton Court based Club.

The 50-strong local association are passionate about their pleasant environment becoming a tidier, litter free place to live and wanted the bins sited at ‘hot spots’ on the main arterial routes between Eckington Road and Station Road bus stops.

It all came about when Centre Management gave a lunchtime talk - followed by the Club members request for help in cleaning up their area’s unsightly mess.

Said Secretary, William Longden, “We’re asking all residents – however young - to think before they drop litter and urge everyone to use these new bins so we all can be proud of our local communities streets. It’s the latest chapter following on from the Beighton Environment Groups great effort and their success at working together with local businesses to improve all aspects of the townships street scene.” He added, “These new bins are slightly larger and will protect most of the contents from scavenging animals too.”

Chris Jones, Centre Manager said, “The real praise must go to the residents of Halfway, especially Halfway Elderly Peoples Club for reducing the amount of litter in the area. Keeping our community clean is everyone’s responsibility. We all want a nice place to live and we must all play our part in keeping our streets and green area’s free of litter, graffiti, fly tipping and dog fouling. It takes only a moment to throw something into a litterbin, but it takes a lot longer and costs all of us a lot more to send someone out to clean it up. I’m confident the new bins will be a great success and we're only too pleased to help.”
