A N-ICE STORY... THAW A CHANGE!Coals to Newcastle? Sand to the Arabs? A freezer donation in winter Artic conditions? Well, when Hackenthorpe Community Centres' fridge broke down their volunteer manager Sue Byrom came up with a chilling plan - to 'cold call' Sheffield's Crystal Peaks Shopping Centre. The Hackenthorpe Community Centre, situated on Fourwells Drive, caters for elderly people at lunchtimes and serves over a hundred hot dinners each and every week throughout the year so it was imperative hygiene and food preparation be first class and storage be germ free for the food to retain its' wholesomeness - a new refrigerator was essential.
At 'The Peaks' there wasn't a frosty reception, but a simple 'cold, snap decision' by management to say "yes" for such a good cause and duly delivered a brand new fridge to the Community Centres' doorstep. "It was s'now joke at the time, but we ploughed on. Seriously, it's a great addition to our kitchen and one less thing to worry about going wrong for a while! The strength of Crystal Peaks' partnership with the community is yet again clearly demonstrated - driven by the hearts and minds of caring management at the Centre. There's nothing like personal involvement and on behalf of all our free service diners we can't thank them enough," said Sue. Chris Jones, Centre Manager said, "Being able to contribute and give back has become embedded in our very ethos when we first forged community partnerships, way back in 1988. This arrangement has always been about more than just donating products and resources, but about touching and enriching the lives of local people." He added, "Crystal Peaks has taken on a true leadership role in social responsibility, strengthen by being the first Shopping Centre in the whole country to achieve the CommunityMark Award and bolstered by the recent prestigious accolade for "Community Impact" at the Sheffield Business Awards, therefore it's only fitting we could step in to help Hackenthorpe Community Centre out." -ends- for further information, please call: t: 01302 759696 m: 07973 676942 |
