OPENING STEELS SANTA’S LIMELIGHT AT CRYSTAL PEAKS…

3 Players from Sheffield Steelers called into Crystal Peaks this week along with club mascot Steeler Dan to help Santa launch his very personable annual charity Grotto.

The ice-stars defence and wing specialist Shane Johnson from Brandon Manitoba; Steelers Captain, Shawn Maltby and Goalie, Jody Lehman from North Battleford, Saskatchewan, all stole themselves to officially open “Santa’s Grotto” at the award-winning Sheffield Shopping Centre in the presence of the ever popular and larger-than-life red and white cheery figure of Father Christmas complete with his helpers – 2 friendly seasonal Elves!

It was also a case of n’ice to meet you for the queuing loyal fans, both young and old alike, who turned out to see these star players. 31 year-old Jody, is no stranger to the glitz of ice hockey – especially after collecting a winning Grand Slam last year with Coventry Blaze, and the current Centre position top goal scorer, 30 year old Shawn, from Cambridge, Ontario, signed autographs and had his photo taken with supporters to make it a truly memorable festive family puck stop for the gathered assembly.

Grotto Organiser, Alastair Cowie, from Christmas Crew commented, “We’re really getting into the spirit of the giving season. Santa’s sacks are full with quality pressies for all visiting boys and girls from babies to 7 plus and the twinkling lights and seasonal decorations make the Centre look resplendent - there’s even a themed animation with Blizzard the Yeti and Snowball singing and joking their way through all the merriment in the Central Atrium which simply cannot be missed.”

He added, “Santa’s Grotto is situated in the East Mall and we’re over the moon that 3 Sheffield Steelers came to say hello.  I think they knew that all the profits from this years Grotto will go to the Centre’s nominated annual charity -  “Neurocare” to help with their Brainwave Appeal.  Neurocare want to buy three Sonowand 3D ultrasound scanners for the Neurosurgery Operating Theatres at the Royal Hallamshire, two for adults and one for the kiddy-winks. It will be the first hospital in the UK to have them. So, charity, grotto’s and Christmas will all go hand in hand to make Crystal Peaks’ give a present with a future, for the benefit of all, especially our Sheffield so Happy Christmas one and all!”
