DALEK INVASION TURNED FRIENDLY AT CRYSTAL PEAKSIt was exhilaration not extermination for the thousands of delighted ‘Doctor Who’ fans who flocked to Crystal Peaks on Bank Holiday Monday (29th May) to see live characters and actual props from the highly successful BBC TV programme. “For 4 decades the cult television show has been captivating and exciting all age groups, and as a huge fan myself, it was a real coup for the Centre to be on the receiving end of this ‘friendly’ invasion force…” said Centre Manager, Chris Jones. “With a whole new generation of fans, ‘Doctor Who’ has once again gripped the nations psyche and reignited our own past memories. Especially with the exclusive appearance of lesser known but still unforgettable Autons, Exxilons and Draconians for real die-hard fans from the likes of Outpost Gallifrey.” All the ‘Doctor Who’ characters are provided via a remarkable volunteer charity group. Organiser, Wayne Broughton, Secretary of the Hyde Fundraisers said, “We’re a specialised fundraising team who utilise sci-fi costumes and television props. This year we’re doing it all for Children in Need and the Calibre Library as suggested by John Leeson - non other than the voice of Robot dog K-9. K9 is reunited with Doctor Who in this new series after 24 years apart and yes, a little gathered rust is no object to a fully functional K9 as he went walk-about and talk-about with visitors at Crystal Peaks.” He added, “We’ve had look-a-like appearances from the 10th Doctor, David Tennant and from Jon Pertwee with his replica canary-yellow roadster “Bessie”, the one Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart had ‘put into mothballs’. As one passer by commented, it felt like real time travel, because we took her back to the seventies, so our t.v. magic did work afterall.”
