CHARITY SEES GREEN AT PEAKS…

Top o' the mornin' to ya! Today’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations (Friday, 17th March) saw kindhearted staff from Crystal Peaks shops and stores go “green” whilst raising funds for a local ‘brain’ charity by taking part in a ‘Dress Down Day’.

Sheffield’s Neurocare’s Brainwave Appeal hope to raise hundred’s of pounds today and have encouraged the Shopping Centre’s Argos, Superdrug, Lloyds Pharmacy, Wilkinson’s, Clinton Cards and Specsavers to wear green from head to foot or simply let them wear a green item of clothing for a £2 minimum donation.

Neurocare are based in Lydgate Lane and are raising funds for the Neurosciences Department at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital to buy the latest high tech. 3D – Three Dimensional Scanners for their operating theatres.

“I know it’s a bit ‘Lepre-chaunie’ but the legend has it you need to wear green, so you won't get pinched! But it’s not a very flattering colour! I think green because Ireland is known as the Emerald Isle and it’s covered with beautiful green valleys, fields and pastures.” Commented Lisa Cooper, Manager of Argos Extra, “So why the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations? Patrick died on March 17, 461, and that day was almost immediately declared a feast day along with singing, dancing and noshing. That, and the fact that it comes just a few days before the spring equinox may explain why it grew in popularity. I am glad it did or we wouldn’t be doing this! It’s been great fun - and to raise money for Neurocare – such a great cause, well, as the Irish in their blessings would say… may you always have courage to take a chance… and never find frogs in your underpants! Mines a Guinness…..”
