FORMAL OPENING FOR THE MARKET PLACECouncil Leader, Cllr Jan Wilson, unveiled a plaque at the market entrance along with Hallam FM’s Big John on Friday 26th August for the formal opening of the new Market Place. The opening was also attended by Market Traders’ representatives and Sheffield Markets staff who have been involved in the project. In addition to the official opening the breakfast team from Hallam FM’s Big John at Breakfast made an appearance in the market to launch the ‘Big John’s Breakfast’ at Lee’s Takeaway. The Market Place is the new name for the market at Crystal Peaks which has had a major make-over worth £1.9m.
The market’s new stall layout will allow customers easy browsing throughout the market and an improved shopping experience. Additional features of the Market Place include new public toilets and a baby changing area and improvements to the CCTV system within the market as well. There are now a total of 91 stalls in The Market Place and some of the products on offer include clothes, fresh fruit, meat and fish, cosmetics, bakery products, jewellery, flowers, electrical goods and newspapers and magazines. There are also services including hairdressing, engraving, manicures and snack bars. The refurbishment programme is the work of Sheffield City Council and the owners of Crystal Peaks Centre, Hermes. Hermes funded the refurbishment. Council Leader Cllr Jan Wilson commented: “The Market Place is the result of lots of hard work by Council Officers and Hermes to create a far better market shopping experience.” -ends- |
