TAKING A SLICE OUT OF JAMIE OLIVER'S RECIPE BOOK...
Hot on the heels of the celebrity chef's Channel 4 TV programme "Jamie's School Dinners", Sheffield's Reighead Primary really got a pizza the action recently when 40 pupils called into Crystal Peaks to learn all about healthy eating from the Shopping Centre's 'Deep Pan Pizza Company'. The initiative was part of the Beighton schools' "Healthy Eating/Food Design & Technology Project" and two classes of 5 to 6 years olds from Year One came to learn all about their eating options.
Commented school teacher Sarah Rogers, "Sofia Lyons - the other class teacher and I, thought it would be fascinating for the children to experience first hand the 'back of house' processes in one of their local restaurants. Deep Pan was only too pleased and kind enough to show us the alternatives. We learnt about health and safety issues and the all important food hygiene regulations. We saw the food preparation areas along with all the baking ovens. Then a tasting session! The children discovered that pepperoni, although spicy and very tasty, was not as good as the combination of a fresh bread dough base with cheese and tomatoes. That came out the tops for toppings ... and you knew what it was made of! Much much better than Turkey Twizzlers any day! " Said Manageress, Jil Bingham "It's just great to see the TV guru has replaced all processed foods at Kidbrooke School in Greenwich, London, with freshly cooked meals. He has described much of the processed food served to children as nutrition less "rubbish". We're about encouraging the use of what's good. It's about promoting healthy ingredients, about freshly prepared ingredients, about getting children to want to eat what's good for them. We've always been famous for our Deep Pan Pizzas which are freshly baked on the premises each and every day - so what a better time to share the nutrious news." for further information, please call: t: 01302 759696 m: 07973 676942 |
