The Cathedral Archer Project (CAP) offers food and a base to homeless people in the centre of Sheffield.  The project runs from 7 am – 2 pm each day. The CAP was awarded the Queens Jubilee award in 2003.
In common with the centres of other major cities, Sheffield City Centre has become a focus for a range of vulnerable groups i.e. asylum seekers, refugees, rough sleepers, the homeless, street drinkers, people with mental health problems, disaffected young people and other with chaotic lifestyles.

A 'Mall Sleep-In' was launched in November 2006 to create awareness.  The
Sleep-In included centre staff, tenant staff and CAP staff and volunteers.
Objective :
o
to raise sponsorship from contractors.
o
create awareness to local community for donations of  food, toiletries, clothing and equipment.
o         typical donated pack would include : rucksack, sleeping bag, flask, chocolate, socks and underwear.

The launch was such a success that the Archer Project became the Centre's charity for 2007 with all funds and donations received going to the charity.

The new Community Resources Centre

The new Community Resources Centre was opened in March 2007 and comprises of four suites of rooms with full access throughout for people with disabilities.  These are the Archer Project Suite, the Cathedral Breakfast Suite, a Community Suite and a Gallery Suite.  These facilities and services are unique in Sheffield and provide a major contribution to the needs of the region.  The CRC has space and facilities including a dedicated medical room, which is essential (and in extreme cases, life saving); support for over 600 of the most vulnerable, needy and socially excluded people in Sheffield with the improved facilities and services ; provide improved all-age educational and training resources to move people forward into the world of work, training and self development ;  allocate dedicated rooms for counselling services for people suffering from depression, anxiety, drug/alcohol and solvent abuse ; create a ‘one-stop shop’ for those most at risk in Sheffield ;    dedicated space for use of community and voluntary groups, exhibitions, school groups visiting the cathedral.
